TOKEN
single-channel video

Token is a new video installation that explores the intertwined collapses of homes, bodies, and economies.
Token incorporates archival materials from the 2008 subprime crisis and dance marathons from the Great Depression in the US. The marathons began as dance competitions in the 1920s and evolved into human endurance competitions, or exploitative entertainment events during the Great Depression of the 1930s. (For example marathons lasting 1000 hours).

The process of perspiration, an internal process that manifests stress, modifying temperature, as well as an intimate manifestation of effort and pleasure. The intimacy is clashed with actuarial tables, a discipline that applies mathematical and statistical methods to assess risk in insurance, finance, and other industries and professions. More generally, actuaries apply rigorous mathematics to model matters of uncertainty.
